In April of 2005, the Government of Georgia appointed a special "Presidential Visit Task Force" to prepare Georgia for the first ever visit of an American President to any country in the Caucasus Region.
President George W. Bush will visit Georgia on May 9-10, 2005 with a full schedule of activities involving thousands of Georgians.
President Saakashvili and his new government resolved to make the visit a total success by letting Georgians show the world what Georgia can do now that it is a democratic society where its people can flourish. The Government quickly assembled a coordinating team of Georgian experts to lead the planning for every aspect of the U.S. visit.
Team members come from the Georgian government and from Georgia 's private business sector. The team structure is designed on a modern model for productivity, close cooperation and open communication, the first deliberate public-private partnership ever exercised in Georgia .
The Government outfitted and opened an office for the Task Force in its capital of Tbilisi . This is where, for long hours every day of the week, professionals from throughout the government and Georgia 's private sector have gathered to coordinate every element of the visit.
There are teams for event design, protocol and schedule, transportation and public communications. The Georgians on those teams range from young office workers and volunteers to deputy ministers and business executives, with expertise in finance, production and construction and many other fields.
One of the brightest realities for Georgia from the visit of President Bush is to be given the chance to share with Georgia 's many friends around the world, the exciting story of what has been happening in Georgia since the Revolution.
So the Media Office of the Presidential Visit Task Force quickly - in only a few weeks time -- designed this new and special website, www.georgiawelcomesusa.com , to throw open a window for web visitors to see how Georgia is growing better every day. It is written in English for all of our many visitors to learn what Georgians already know.
In advance of the visit, we are posting new items every day to tell the story of Georgia 's progress and during the visit on May 9 and 10,. this website will post, as quickly as possible, information and free photos on both days )
The spirit of the Rose Revolution is alive and still inspiring Georgia . The Rose Revolution was not about only an election, it was about giving Georgia an open and honest government that existed only to serve the Georgian people and to create a society where people and their ideas could grow.
The spirit that gave us the courage for the Revolution is now being poured into making the Georgia that her people deserve. We have tried to capture that spirit on this site.
Thank you for reading our site!
There is so much to tell you!
Sincerely,
The Presidential Visit Task Force Media Office
